Tim Borton, Drumming Instructor
Percussionist Tim Borton is quickly establishing himself as one of the top young musicians in the country. A graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, his principal teachers included Russell Hartenberger, John Rudolph, Bev Johnston, and Robin Engelman, with additional studies at the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music with David Kent. Splitting his time between Halifax and Toronto, Tim frequently performs with such ensembles as Symphony Nova Scotia, the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Nothin' but Gnarly Ensemble at Acadia University. Tim also spent two years as Principal Percussionist with the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand. Equally at home as a highland snare drummer, Tim has competed with grade one bands the 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel) and Alberta Caledonia, and was formerly the lead drummer of the grade two City of Regina Pipe Band. Teaching credits include the Maritime Conservatory, Dalhousie University, Auckland University, the Vimy Ridge Academy (Edmonton), and the Conservatory of the Performing Arts (Regina).
