Thomas Harrington was the top competitor in the April Mini-Gathering, bringing in firsts for the grade one event and for the overall prize. The Mini-Gatherings are small competitions for amateur pipers in the Atlantic provinces and held on the first Saturday in each of February, March and April. Harrington hails from Truro, Nova Scotia and is a member of the 78th Highlanders grade one competition band.

Also announced today were the overall winners for each of the grades. There were as follows:
- Grade 5 Champion - James Dysan received a book and accompanying CD courtesy of the Tartan Thistle in Freeland, Washington, USA
- Grade 5 Champion - Corey MacDonald received a gift certificate from The Scottish Lion Shop in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
- Grade 4 Champion - Ian Best, received a sgian dubh courtesy of McCallum Bagpipes in Kilmarnock, Scotland
- Grade 3 Champion - Gregor MacKellar received a custom made blowpipe from John Walsh Bagpipes in Nova Scotia and socks from McCallum Bagpipes in Kilmarnock, Scotland
- Grade 2 Champion - Liam Murray received a large engraved quaich courtesy of The Highland Scottish Gift Shop in Calgary, Alberta
- Grade 1 champion - Thomas Harrington received a new sporran and kilt hose courtesy of McCallum Bagpipes in Kilmarnock, Scotland
