Volunteer Recognition
1. Halifax Citadel Regimental Association Medal
Background: In order to increase alumni involvement and provide all members with a tangible memento of their affiliation with the Halifax Citadel Regimental Association a commemorative medal has been produced.
Description: The colour scheme for the ribbon is based on the colours associated with the 78th Highlanders. Green for the pipers, blue and buff for the Seaforth’s and red for the infantry. It is a ribboned medal of a style contemporary with British military medals circa 1869 in keeping with a late Victorian theme. A portrait of Queen Victoria is located on the obverse and a distinctly 78th Highlanders theme on the reverse. It was agreed to incorporate the pattern of the Doublet Button on the reverse of the medal as it is a common theme between all members of the 78th Highlanders regardless of rank. Authority was granted by the Lord Chamberlains’ office at Buckingham Palace to employ the image of the Late Queen Victoria in the production of this medal. The medal was produced by Bigbury Mint in the UK according to regimental colour schemes and devices and disbursement is controlled through the regimental secretary. The medal was stuck in solid 925 Sterling Silver, meets all UK hallmark legislation and is also serial numbered on the rim with: HCRA xxxxx.
Eligibility: The following groups are eligible for the Association Medal:
- Uniformed members of the 78th Highlanders.
- Uniformed members of the 3rd Brigade, Royal Artillery.
- Members of the HCRA board.
- Patrons of the HCRA.
- Volunteers, civil servants, CF and Allied Service personnel who have rendered an acceptable level of service to the HCRA.
